EFT

EFT has kept me sane and changed the way I view the world. So much so that I decided to train to become a practitioner.

Through my darkest hours of pain, anguish, disappointment, frustration and heart-wrenching sadness on this roller-coaster journey with my body, it is EFT that has helped me not to lose site of that light that is this life and get tangled in the sticky sheets of despair. I think without it, by now I would have been a basket case!

So what is EFT?

For thousands of years Traditional Chinese Medicine has worked around the 12 energy meridians that run through our bodies channeling Qi (energy). Along these meridians are various acupressure points that are used to help unblock these channels. EFT (tapping) is an energy healing technique that stimulates these acupressure points on our body to eliminate blockages that are causing or contributing to mental, emotional or physical stress/pain.

When we have a trauma in our lives (no matter how big or small) it creates a disruption in our energy system. These disruptions lead to health issues, troublesome emotions, fears, limiting beliefs and many more. If we eliminate these disruptions via a tool such as EFT, the body can return to normal and healing occurs.

How does EFT work?

We have an almond-shaped set of neurons in the mid-brain known as the amygdala – basically our body’s smoke detector. When it senses a threat (real or imagined), it signals to the hypothalamus to mobilise ‘fight or flight’. An early negative experience can program the amygdala to raise its alarm when something similar triggers it in the future – it may be a site, smell, sound etc. When we tap on the EFT acupressure points while thinking about a negative experience or tuning into the negative emotions in our bodies, this turns the amygdala’s alarm off, which communicates to the body that this situation/memory is in fact safe.

The beautiful thing about EFT is that once you know how to use it, it is a self-help tool that you have for life. Although you can heal so much and bring about so much calm simply tapping on your own. With bigger issues it is advisable to have an EFT practitioner to support you in the process.
