Book description

May these words spell I see you, I feel you, to anyone who feels utterly alone on a healing journey.

It’s hard sometimes for others to understand what you’re going through if they haven’t been through it themselves.

breaking open is a journey back to our first home, the body, and to Mother Earth. It’s a collection of poetry and prose from times of deep despair and breaking on a healing journey that sometimes seems unending. It’s also the wildness, joy, gratitude, and opening to the waves of humanness that we all ride.

It’s a permission slip to be gentler and more self-loving with ourselves. It’s a light in the dark when the night feels like it might be too long.

Background to my writing journey…

I grew up on far-flung farms in South Africa with wild geese as my swimming companions and baboons in the backyard. I currently live in New Zealand with my faithful furry companion, Millie, and our favorite place to be is the ocean.

Creativity has always been a form of healing for me.

I write to understand myself and this life more deeply. To untangle the threads and weave them into a tapestry that makes sense to me and can hopefully be a beacon of hope for others.

I was given a Crohn’s diagnosis when I was 21. This led me on a long and convoluted path of finding out more of who I was, how to become the guardian of my own body and how real, deep vulnerable connection and self-love were at the core of everything for me.

My poems and stories are an exploration of finding a home within ourselves amongst the sharp and painful pieces of existence, nature, laughter and the endless learning of loving and letting go.

When I’m not writing, I’m meditating, walking on the beach, surfing, connecting with friends, facilitating circles, dancing and supporting other women to find a deeper connection and love with themselves and others.

My plans for publishing include poetry books, a memoir, a recipe book and a book on friendship.
